ONEOK representatives at this year’s career fairs and recruiting events met a lot of outstanding candidates.
“I was really pleased with the student turnout and quality of students we saw on campus this year. It was great to hear students say they are interested in working for ONEOK and they’ve heard good things about the company,” said Kate Montgomery, university recruiter. “The fact that we are always one of the busiest tables makes for an exciting and rewarding day.”
Along with ONEOK recruiters, several employees usually are on hand to meet with students and answer questions about internship opportunities and working at ONEOK.
“Our employees really look forward to getting out and speaking to students on campus, said Carly Beller, university recruiter. “We’re all about building relationships with the students and the universities where we recruit.

“There are several things that we try to communicate to the students, including what positions we are trying to fill and how they can apply,” said Clifton Gray, manager, application technology. “Most importantly, however, we try to communicate that we’re a company filled with good, smart people who tackle important problems. Hopefully after talking with us, they can see themselves wanting to be a part of what we do.”
Gray is a popular speaker and enjoys giving student presentations. In one year alone, he spoke to more than 1,000 students, faculty and staff, attending classroom presentations, special events, career fairs and interviews at various Oklahoma universities.
“These presentations are an invaluable way to get our company in front of students. We try to present an idea or a topic that’s both interesting and beneficial to the students,” said Gray. “This makes us really stand out from the crowd, and the feedback from the students and professors has been fantastic. They appreciate that we’re there to help, and they really like us as a result.”
While there are many outstanding students at each of these events, ONEOK hires only a limited number each year. Students are evaluated on various measures, but generally, ONEOK looks for good communication skills, leadership experience, campus or community involvement, a good GPA and an interest in learning.
