Austin Gas Conservation Commercial Programs

Texas Gas Service offers many gas conservation programs, which vary from year to year, for customers living inside the Austin city limits.

Why the Austin area?
In the mid 1980s the Austin City Council began requiring Texas Gas Service to collect a special fee from Austin Texas Gas Service customers to fund conservation programs and activities. This "conservation adjustment clause" provides the funds for the Conservation Program and its staff, incentives, and activities within the City of Austin.

Food service equipment program
Texas Gas Service will give an incentive for the installation of high efficiency natural gas cooking equipment, such as water heaters, booster heaters, food service equipment, etc.

Dollar amounts vary, depending on equipment type.

Commercial hydronic heating program
A hydronic heater is a water heater that provides both space heating and hot water heating.

The program is available to builders or developers who install these systems in their facilities.

The water heater operates like any conventional heater, but when space heating is needed the thermostat activates a small pump, which uses hot water to produce warm air that circulates through the ducts.

Texas Gas Service offers an incentive of $500 per unit.

Commercial water heating program
Texas Gas Service offers incentives to help make the installation of new, high-efficient, energy saving gas water heating systems financially rewarding.

Water heating is the second largest gas use in the commercial sector.

Texas Gas Service offers up to 20% of equipment cost.

Natural gas vehicle program
Texas Gas Service offers an incentive ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 for participants (either residential or commercial) who convert a gasoline-powered vehicle to natural gas, or who purchase a natural gas vehicle.

The program includes the conversions of light and heavy duty vehicles and forklifts.

Commercial WashWise incentive program
Texas Gas Service offers an incentive of $100 for the purchase of an energy efficient front-loading commercial clothes washing machine.

These machines save gas because they use less hot water than conventional machines.

This program is offered in conjunction with the City of Austin Water Conservation Dept.
